Mitchell Robinson Opens Up About Injury Issues in Knicks’ 2026 Title Run

Prior to the 2026 NBA Finals, news broke that New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson suffered a hand injury. Robinson was able to play the entirety of the series, but there was no clear answer as to where and how the injury occurred.

Just recently, Robinson finally broke his silence about the injury, and he said it had to do with a family-related problem. Robinson said his younger brother was involved in a car accident that left him "wearing a neck brace, unresponsive, and not speaking."

Because of everything that transpired, Robinson hit his hand against his truck in frustration, causing the injury and putting his Finals status in danger. He was able to get surgery on the finger, and he played with a protective brace on it during the Finals.
"After consulting with the doctors, I was able to gain confidence in myself to go in and get the job done and WE DID 2026 NBA CHAMPS," Robinson said on social media. Though he played through injury, Robinson still played his role well as the Knicks were on their way to a championship.
In the Finals, he averaged 5.6 rebounds, 3.6 points and 0.6 assists in 13.4 minutes per game. Mitchell Robinson's stats don't jump out of the stat sheet, but it was his interior presence that gave the Knicks a big lift against the San Antonio Spurs.

He was coming off the bench and was primarily matched up with Spurs center Luke Kornet, who has a similar play style to Robinson. Both big men clashed throughout the whole series, but it was Robinson and the Knicks who had the edge in their matchup
Mitchell Robinson recently signed a three-year, $47.4 million deal to join the Boston Celtics after the Knicks let him walk in free agency this summer. After eight seasons with the Knicks and a championship, he did what he could to leave a mark on the franchise.
