Asia Cup 2027: Everything you need to know about the next edition

The Asian Cricket Council has locked in plans for the Men's Asia Cup 2027, and Bangladesh is set to host a six-team 50-over tournament that doubles up as the final major rehearsal before the ODI World Cup later that year.

The proposed window of June 18 to July 4 puts the competition roughly three months ahead of the marquee event in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

The 2027 edition flips back to the 50-over game after the 2025 edition was played in T20 format, and the reasoning is straightforward. With the ODI World Cup on the horizon, the Asia Cup becomes the ideal platform for squads to find their best combinations and for players to rediscover their rhythm in the longer format.

That means there is every chance Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both of whom have stepped away from T20Is, could return to a major continental stage in blue once again. India head into the tournament as two-time defending champions, having won the ODI Asia Cup in 2023 and the T20 edition in 2025.

What is the start date of the Asia Cup 2027?

Asia Cup 2027 is set to commence on June 18, 2027.

What are the venues of the Asia Cup 2027?

There were genuine concerns about Bangladesh losing the rights to host this tournament. The friction between Bangladesh and India reached boiling point when Mustafizur Rahman was released by Kolkata Knight Riders during IPL 2026. This was followed by Bangladesh pulling out of the T20 World Cup and forcing Scotland to step in.

India's planned white-ball tour of Bangladesh in 2026 was also put on hold, but there have been encouraging reports that the series might go ahead in September.

Questions naturally arose about whether the ACC might relocate the Asia Cup given the complicated backdrop.

The standing agreement between the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board means India and Pakistan will not travel to each other's countries, making a neutral venue non-negotiable.

Bangladesh fits that requirement, and under the new BCB administration led by Tamim Iqbal, there are visible efforts to mend ties with Indian cricket's governing body. That shift in attitude has gone a long way toward keeping Bangladesh in the frame.

There is also an administrative reason. The rotation of the ACC presidency means Mohsin Naqvi's term ends in April 2027, at which point the BCB is in line to nominate the next president. That political context makes it even less likely that Bangladesh would be stripped of rights at this stage.

The likely venues are:

  • Mirpur
  • Chattogram
  • Sylhet
