Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame to introduce World Champions Wing

The Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame will expand beyond its traditional individual inductees during its Class of 2026 banquet.
The Hall will introduce the inaugural World Champions Wing members during its 23rd induction ceremony Saturday at the Frank J. Pasquerilla Conference Center. The program will begin at 5:30 p.m., following a social hour at 4:30.

“Our region is blessed to produce a number of world-class athletes who have won championships on the world stage,” said Bruce Haselrig, chairman of the Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame committee. “Last year, two of our athletes and one special team each won world championships. These feats built on the momentum of another world title only four years earlier.
“The Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame is honored to create this wing that will be home to these world champions and, we hope, future world champions.”
West Suburban 12-Under Little League Softball World Series champions: Representing the Johnstown league and comprised of players from throughout Cambria County, West Suburban 12-U became the first Pennsylvania team to win the LLSWS since 1978.
The title run concluded in the most-watched LLSWS championship game on ESPN platforms – drawing an average of 1.44 million viewers and peaking at nearly 3 million, according to ESPN.
Behind Cambria Heights School District standout pitcher Reagan Bills’ dominant performance in the circle, West Suburban defeated Indiana 1-0. The area went went 5-0 in the World Series, outscoring opponents 17-1.
The World Series-winning squad included Mallory Bailor, Aubrey Baxter, Reagan Bills, Sadie Divido, Kennedy Fees, Camilla Gaunt, Adalyn Hines, Mara Keefe, Kendal Schilling, Leilah Schilling-Mansour, Haley Shepherd and Nevaeh Worthington. Manager Les Gaunt was assisted by coaches Rick Baxter and Rick Bills.
West Suburban defeated Floyds Knobs, Indiana, 1-0, in the championship game that took place in Greenville, North Carolina.
Bo Bassett, wrestling: The Bishop McCort Catholic High School recent graduate claimed his world title in 2021.
Bassett became the youngest world champion in history after the then-14-year-old captured the 2021 17-Under World Championship in Budapest, Hungary.
Bassett pinned Russia’s Alikhan Ashinov in the 45-kilogram freestyle title bout at the Cadet World Wrestling Championships. He rolled through the world championships, pinning three of his foes and scoring a technical fall over the other.
Including his 4-0 performance at the Pan-American Cadet Championships – where he won gold in freestyle and Greco-Roman – Bassett had an 8-0 record and won each bout via technical fall or pin during his 2021 international run.
In 2026, Bassett became a three-time PIAA Class 2A champion with a 170-0 career record at Bishop McCort. He collected the most career wins by an undefeated wrestler in PIAA history.
WIN Magazine presented Bassett the prestigious Junior Dan Hodge Trophy Award in May. Bassett was named 2025-26 MaxPreps Pennsylvania male athlete of the year.
Keegan Bassett, Wrestling: Bishop McCort Catholic High School wrestler Keegan Bassett won the 45-kilogram 17-Under men’s freestyle World Championship in Athens, Greece, Aug. 3, 2025.
Keegan Bassett pinned Iran’s Parsa Tahmasbi in the title match. The fall earned Team USA 25 points in a tight battle with Iran in the team standings.
The standout methodically advanced through the bracket in Athens, with a perfect 4-0 record over two days.
He defeated Shivam Shivam, of India, 8-5 in the round of 16, and then topped Bakdaulet Agabek, of Kazakhstan, by technical fall, 15-4 in a quarterfinal match. In the semifinals, Bassett won 6-2 over Ibragim Veliullov, of United World Wrestling.
He won the 45 title in the 2025 U-17 Freestyle World Team Trials to earn his spot in the World Championships.
During his sophomore season at Bishop McCort Catholic High School, Keegan Bassett struck PIAA Class 2A gold, winning a state championship at 121 pounds to cap his 2025-26 campaign.
In addition to his success in 2025 and 2026, Keegan Bassett had a banner year on the mat in 2024, when he won the 2024 U-15 Pan American Championships, dominating in both styles, winning gold in Greco-Roman and Freestyle.
Keegan Bassett also won the 2024 U.S. Open in the 15-U Greco-Roman event. That same year, he was a U-16 Fargo nationals champion in freestyle at 94 pounds.
Jax Forrest, Wrestling: The Bishop McCort Catholic High School product earned a gold medal in the 2025 Under-23 World Championships in a back-and-forth title bout at 61 kilograms in Novi Sad, Serbia.
A two-time PIAA champion, Forrest made national news when he graduated early at Bishop McCort Catholic in late December 2025 and joined the Oklahoma State University program in January 2026. As a true freshman, Forrest went undefeated and won a NCAA Division I championship at 133 pounds in March 2026.
In Serbia, Forrest took an early lead and then outlasted 2024 Under-17 world champion Omurbek Asan Uulu, of Kyrgyzstan, 17-14, in the 2025 final.
Throughout his four matches in the World Championship event, Forrest accumulated 55 points. He won his first three bouts via technical falls.
But perhaps his most impressive international feat came when he defeated world champion Vito Arujau to become the youngest wrestler to ever represent the U.S. at the Senior World Championships, ultimately placing fifth against the world’s best in Croatia.
Forrest also won a 2025 Pan-Am gold and a 2022 U-17 World silver in Rome.
