This World Cup was to supposed to be everything that Christian Pulisic had been working towards since 2022. It ended up being among the biggest disappointments of his up-and-down career thus far.
And now, the U.S. men's national team star has broken his silence after 36 hours of criticism directed his way.

Pulisic was subbed out of the USMNT's Round of 16 loss to Belgium on Monday after picking up an ankle injury. Even before the injury, Pulisic was struggling mightily. He lost possession a team-high 11 times and looked like a shell of the player who tore through Paraguay in the USMNT's World Cup opener (before also leaving with an injury).
After Monday's match, Pulisic mentioned the opportunity to rest his hurt ankle, which then prompted a chorus of criticism from prominent former USMNT and USWNT players. While many of Pulisic's teammates made posts on Tuesday to thank fans or to apologize for the deflating loss, Pulisic remained silent.
That changed on Wednesday with an Instagram post.
