The South African reached out to Sinah for an interview about her tombstone-inspired cake, which she dedicated to her dearest mother-in-law, Mmadile Esther Lesejane, who sadly passed away in 2020.
CAN YOU WALK ME THROGUH HOW LONG IT TOOK TO BAKE THIS CAKE?
It took me 2 weeks because I had other cakes in between.
COULD YOU PLEASE SHARE WHAT YOUR MOTHER-IN-LAW WAS LIKE AND THE IMPACT SHE HAD ON YOU?
My mother-in-law was like my mother, who treated me like her own child. The relationship we had was unbreakable; I wouldn’t mind doing a R100 000 cake the way we had a good relationship.
COULD YOU KINDLY SHARE THE PRICE RANGE FOR THIS CAKE?
R45 000.
WAS THE TOMBSTONE DESIGN YOUR ONLY IDEA OR DID YOU CONSIDER OTHER DESIGNS?
No, the tombstone was not the only design, but it was the1st priority and the 2nd cake was the candle which I also did.

WHAT FLAVOUR WAS THE CAKE?
We had lemon, chocolate, vanilla with mixed berry and Swiss meringue, and then the candles we had Amarula, choc, red velvet, and blueberry.
HOW DID THE FAMILY REACT WHEN THEY SAW THE CAKE?
They didn’t realise until I said, can we please cut the cake they were all surprised. I’m talking about family, friends, and church members. I had to stop [cutting the cake] because they wanted to take photos.
DID YOU FACE ANY CHALLENGES WHILE MAKING THIS CAKE?
I guess to me I enjoyed doing it. I didn’t have any challenges. For me, it was the easiest design.
IF YOU BAKED THE CAKE AGAIN, WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY?
I wouldn’t change anything.
