LSU baseball signee Jensen Hirschkorn drafted by Atlanta Braves in 2026 MLB Draft

LSU baseball signee Jensen Hirschkorn was drafted by the Atlanta Braves with the No. 84 overall pick in the third round of the 2026 MLB Draft on Saturday, July 11.

The high school prospect is the second LSU signee taken in this year's draft behind Logan Schmidt. The right-handed pitcher is expected to sign a professional contract instead of playing for Jay Johnson and the Tigers in college.

Hirschkorn (6-foot-7, 205 pounds) is an intimidating presence on the mound and coming into the MLB Draft this weekend, MLB Pipeline rated him the No. 56 overall player in this year's draft class.

Coming into the MLB Draft, Hirschkorn was rated as the 56th overall best prospect and his projected slot value at No. 84 was $973.70k.

He already has a legitimate three-pitch mix, headlined by a 95-96 mph heater he throws with very little effort. And scouts believe once he adds onto his frame and gets bigger and stronger, that Hirschkorn should be able to reach triple digits with his fastball.

Johnson and LSU pitching coach Nate Yeskie have believed that getting Hirschkorn to campus would be tough and they've hit the transfer portal this offseason for some experienced, quality righthanded pitchers, including Landon Hood from Gonzaga, Diego Velazquez from USC and Kaden Smith from South Florida.

Outside of Hirschkorn, LSU has five other righties in its 2026 signing class including Cooper Sides, Dylan Blomker, Kolby Stringer, Coleton Brady and Braydon Wisener. The expectation is most of those pitchers make their way to campus.
