There is a growing sense around the NBA that LeBron James' free agency decision will be made in the near future. The four-time NBA champion has reportedly narrowed his list to five or six teams, all of which are legitimate contenders.

This free agency process has been unique for James. Rather than meeting with teams himself, he has allowed his agent, Rich Paul, to handle nearly all communication.
“As of right now there are no plans for LeBron to engage in any meetings to allow teams to pitch him on the idea of coming to their prospective teams...his agent Rich Paul is doing all the background work. He's talking with teams and then he in return he will relay all the intel and data to LeBron James in which LeBron will make a decision,” NBA insider Chris Haynes said.
The Golden State Warriors have been among the most aggressive teams pursuing James this offseason, with Draymond Green even spending time with him.
“LeBron James and Draymond Green are meeting up as the NBA's all-time leading scorer looks to join a new team for the 2026-27 season, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. Charania reported that James and Green are spending some time here together this week at an undisclosed location during a Tuesday appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show,” Bleacher Report’s Zach Bachar wrote.
While James has not been taking calls from teams, Warriors players have reportedly maintained direct communication with him.
“Not many people in this process can reach LeBron James directly, but the Warriors players can,” ESPN’s Anthony V. Slater said.
Whether players from other organizations have also been in contact with James remains unclear, but the Warriors have demonstrated how committed they are to recruiting him. Landing James remains Golden State's top offseason priority.
Steph Curry and Draymond Green have played significant roles in the Warriors' recruitment efforts by using their personal relationships with James to stay in contact throughout the process. Their involvement has given Golden State a unique recruiting advantage as it continues its pursuit of the four-time NBA champion.
