Former Seattle Seahawks second-round pick Ethan Pocic has finally signed with a new team, having suffered a catastrophic injury last season.

Pocic, who was Seattle’s starting center in 2020 and off-and-on in 2021, has agreed to a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens. According to Ravens insider Jeff Zrebiec, Pocic’s contract is worth up to $4.5 million, with a base of $3 million.

The 30-year-old Pocic has had a fairly significant injury history throughout his time with both the Seahawks and Cleveland Browns, but nothing more serious than his Achilles tear last December. Usually a tear that late into the season jeopardizes at least some of the ensuing season, but that may not be the case for Pocic. Two days prior to signing, Pocic was cleared for training camp.

Baltimore lost star center Tyler Linderbaum to the Las Vegas Raiders in a massive free agency move. Veteran Danny Pinter, undrafted rookie Nick Dawkins, and third-year player Corey Bullock (13 total snaps) are among the other options. There won’t be a whole lot of stiff competition for Pocic to face to win the starting job.

This could possibly be relevant to the Seahawks if only because there has been speculation that, should a center-needy team come calling, the Seahawks could look to offload backup center Olu Oluwatimi on an expiring contract. Baltimore seemed like a prospective candidate before the Pocic news, and still might depending on how its center competition pans out.

All the best to Pocic as he looks to overcome a devastating injury and start on one of the teams billed as an AFC contender.
