Man and woman accused of targeting elderly woman in North York distraction theft

A man and a woman face organized crime charges for allegedly targeting an elderly woman with a child in a distraction theft in North York two months ago.
Toronto police say senior citizen and her grandchild were walking in the area of Falstaff Ave. and Culford Rd. – near Keele St. And Hwy. 401 – when they allegedly encountered the accused thieves around 10 a.m. on May 18.
“One of the suspects, a man, lured the child towards their van while another suspect, a woman, began a conversation with the elderly victim,” police alleged in a statement released Saturday. “The woman distracted the elderly victim while the man distracted the child and stole their jewelry.”
The thieves then took off.
Investigators subsequently identified two suspects and arrested them.
Constantin Porumbita and Bianca Mitran, both 41 and of Toronto, are each charged with one count of robbery and one count of participating in/contributing to a criminal organization.
Investigators have released images of the accused because they are concerned about the possibility of other alleged victims.
