Gabriel Georges had Ole Miss, Ohio State, and Tennessee hats on the table, even though this was basically a two-horse race between Tennessee and Ohio State. And he ended up with the orange Vols hat on his head with the Power T, with those in attendance applauding.
Gabriel Georges is one of those generational types of players that you just don’t see come around often. That’s why both Tennessee and Ohio State went well out of their way and bent over backwards to land him. Tennessee’s NIL offer has been reported by On3 Sports’ Chris Low to be in the ballpark of $2 million per year for three years, with On3 also mentioning other perks being included, such as travel accommodations for his family.
But make no mistake: Ohio State wanted him BADLY, and they made some eyebrow-raising moves in the process as well. In addition to a seven-figure NIL offer, they offered a scholarship to Gabriel Georges’ friend and teammate, Jordan Darren Djila Tchuisseu, a fellow native Canadian. That’s something that Tennessee did not do, as Darren Djila Tchuisseu held offers from programs like Georgia State, Kennesaw State, UT-Martin, and Dartmouth. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure this one out.
In the end, Josh Heupel picked up one of the biggest recruiting wins in his five-plus years in Knoxville, and he has a true star in the backfield for the next three years. He will obviously have to perform on the field and live up to it, but it’s hard not to compare the ceiling to players like Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry, and Alvin Kamara.
