ESPN: 'No current plan' for Bronny James to join LeBron on 76ers

After eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James will be heading to the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year, $8 million contract. He will be joining a 76ers squad that was already loaded and already a championship contender, and he will be teaming up with elite-level talents such as Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown.

For a while, there has been speculation that his son Bronny could be traded to his next team so that father and son can continue to play together. But at least one recent report has cooled off that speculation a bit.
Ramona Shelburne of ESPN posted on X (formerly Twitter) that there is "no current plan or request' for the younger James to join his father in Philly. Shelburne also wrote that the Lakers' staff has a "fondness" for the 21-year-old.
"As for the impact of LeBron James’ decision on his son Bronny James, Rich Paul, the agent for both tells ESPN that 'they are not a package deal' and there's no current plan or request for Bronny Janes to join his father in Philly.
"Bronny James recently had his contract guaranteed by the Lakers, whose staff has a fondness for him, according to sources."
The younger James showed a bit of improvement this past season, especially with his 3-point shooting, but most feel he isn't close to being an NBA rotation player. The guard averaged 2.9 points in 8.9 minutes a game and shot 40.9% from the field and 38.6% from 3-point range during the 2025-26 campaign.
He was the No. 55 pick in the 2024 draft after spending one season at the University of Southern California. He has two more years left on his contract, and the 2027-28 campaign is a team option.
The Lakers currently have plenty of guard depth with Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, Jaden Hardy, Matisse Thybulle and rookie Cameron Carr all capable of manning either backcourt spot. That will make it very difficult for the younger James to get playing time or even prove that he deserves playing time.
