Well, the Oklahoma City Thunder are back to having a vacant roster spot. In a surprising move, the Denver Nuggets have decided to match his two-year, $12 million contract offer sheet, per ESPN's Shams Charania. They did so with about an hour to spare.

The Thunder signed Jones to a two-year deal. But because he was a restricted free agent, the Nuggets had 48 hours to match the fully guaranteed contract. Which they did — to the surprise of most. As of now, Denver is over the second apron. Of course, it can always make other roster moves to get below it.

But the Nuggets prioritized one of their best developmental success stories in recent years. Jones went undrafted out of Stanford in the 2024 NBA draft. In his two seasons, he worked his way up from a two-way player to getting converted to a standard deal in Feb. 2026.

Jones averaged 5.5 points on 50.4% shooting and 3.3 rebounds this past season. He shot 39.6% from 3 on 2.3 attempts. The 25-year-old started in 37 of 64 regular-season games. Now, he remains in Denver as it refused to allow rival OKC to snatch away one of its depth pieces.

Now, the Thunder remain with a vacant roster spot. Will be interesting to see if they look elsewhere to fill it. Or if they leave it open for flexibility reasons when the 2026-27 regular season starts.
