UK named Pete Nochta its GM on Wednesday, July 29. Nochta previously had been the Wildcats' assistant GM. He replaces his former boss, Pat Biondo, who stepped down from the GM position Tuesday, July 28.
“Pete has earned this opportunity through the work he's done since arriving at Kentucky in January,” UK head coach Will Stein said in a statement. "He's been an invaluable part of building our roster and establishing the foundation of our personnel operation, and I have complete confidence in his ability to lead that area moving forward. Pete has outstanding relationships throughout college football, a great eye for talent and a deep understanding of what we're building here. I'm excited to see him step into this role and continue helping us build a championship-caliber program.”
Before moving to Lexington, Nochta spent the previous 10 seasons at in-state rival Louisville. The past four years, Nochta served as the Cardinals' director of recruiting.
"Pete has been a key contributor to the strong start our football program has made," Kentucky athletics director J Batt said. "He has helped build a strong foundation in recruiting, roster management and player evaluation, and we're excited for him to take on this role. As college athletics continues to evolve, supporting our coaches with the resources and infrastructure necessary to attract, develop and retain talented student-athletes remains a priority."
Nochta was a tight end at UofL from 2006-10, where he was teammates with Stein. During his time with the Cards, Nochta appeared in 35 career games and hauled in 11 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns.
He attended Tates Creek High in Lexington, graduating in 2006.
Nochta's father, John, played football at Kentucky (1973-76) and became a student coach under Fran Curci in 1977. The elder Nochta later served as the head coach at Bryan Station High in Lexington.
