Nathan Freihofer is a powerlifter from Manhattan, Kansas that completed 4,035 pull ups in 24 hours. He was inspired by a YouTube video of David Goggins breaking the world record with 4,030 pull-ups in 24 hours.
“You literally start a timer, and you have 24 hours to do as many pull ups as you humanly can,” said powerlifter Nathan Freihofer. “Either that timer hits 24 hours and you’re done, or you go till you can’t go anymore.”
Freihofer attempted the challenge twice before but came up short. He livestreamed each of his attempts and raised over $7,000 for the Grunt Style Foundation and the National Alliance for Eating Disorders.
“Male especially eating disorders do not get talked about,” Freihofer said. “Most dudes, when you look it up online, you’re not seeing many reassuring things. When I was going through it, the main thing I wanted to see was someone who was like me, struggled with it, then got out of it. I did not find a single person, so I wanted to be that.”
On his third try, he completed his challenge in 24 hours and broke his goal by five pull-ups. He said he couldn’t have done it without the support of his girlfriend, who helped maintain his pace throughout the challenge.

Freihofer said the key to completing the challenge was pacing himself, which meant doing about five pull-ups every minute. He also used momentum to conserve energy and make each repetition as efficient as possible.
“Even a dude with an eating disorder that used to be 105 pounds can be above that toughest man in the world, Freihofer said. “I think that should be some inspiration in whatever facet you decide to do, whether it’s fitness, whether it’s a job, school, whatever. Just don’t sell yourself short. Take a chance and see what you can do.”
