Howie Roseman Throws Question Back at Eagles Reporter Over Jalen Carter Remark

There were questions that the Philadelphia Eagles weren't going to sign Jalen Carter to a contract extension because of some off-field issues.
While Carter has certainly been in his fair share of problems off the field, mainly throughout the draft process, he's seemingly been a stand-up young man since arriving in Philadelphia.

Whatever happened prior to him joining the Eagles, they already knew about, so if they thought it was that big of a problem, they probably wouldn't have drafted him.
At the end of the day, Carter has been brought in to play football and be a regular person off the field, and he's done exactly that.
The Eagles made a very smart decision by signing him to a four-year deal, a signing that not only keeps one of the best defensive players in football around, but gives the team an opportunity to compete for a very long time.
The Eagles, who I think have a chance to be an incredible team once again next season and aren't getting enough credit, need to keep players like Carter around. Not only is it important to do so for them to win next season, but this isn't a squad that's just trying to win next year.
Howie Roseman has built a very good roster, and he expects to win for a very long time. Keeping Carter around didn't seem like a guarantee, but that was because of some outside noise. Recently speaking to reporters about the decision to sign him, it was good to see that Roseman pushed back on some of the comments that have come out about why he might not have signed Carter in Philadelphia.
“I don't know what off-field concerns,” Roseman said ahead of Day 1 of training camp, per NBCS Philly. “Since Jalen's been here, he's put his head down, he's worked hard, and he's made huge impact plays for this organization, for this team. Last year, he wasn't 100%. He tried to fight through that and play through that. We understand that. Like anyone, when you're 25 years old, you're still growing as a person and as a player.”
The most important part that Roseman touched on here is the fact that guys are still improving in their day-to-day lives, whether that be as a person or a player.
This is the NFL, and there's a lot of pressure on them to be stand-up people on and off the field. Carter is only 25 years old, so if he makes a mistake, it really shouldn't be viewed as too surprising.
Most 25-year-olds make mistakes, and as long as he's looking to be a better person on and off the field each day, nobody should view that as a problem.
