Nets officially sign free-agent C Mo Wagner to multi-year contract

The Brooklyn Nets have been trying to improve the roster as much as possible following a 2025-26 NBA season in which they finished with a lowly 20-62 record. Brooklyn's biggest move of the offseason was trading for Minnesota Timberwolves forward Julius Randle to begin their summer, but they finally may have finished acquiring free-agents prior to the beginning of next season.

The Nets announced on Friday that they officially signed former Orlando Magic center Mo Wagner to a multi-year contract after his signed was reported almost one month ago. When the news was announced in the beginning of this month that Brooklyn signed Wagner, HoopsHype's Michael Scotto reported that the deal was for two years and $19 million with the contract being fully-guaranteed and the second year being a mutual option.

Wagner, 29, is coming off a 2025-26 season in which he averaged 6.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game while shooting 42.6% from the field and 31.4% from behind the three-point line in 36 games played. Wagner played less than half of this past season due to his recovery from a knee injury that he suffered in the middle of the 2024-25 campaign while with the Magic.

Wagner fills the void within the center rotation that opened up when the Nets sent center Nic Claxton to the Chicago Bulls as part of the four-team trade that brought Randle to Brooklyn. Heading into next season, it seems that the Nets will be starting Day'Ron Sharpe at center with Wagner and forward Danny Wolf likely vying for time as the current backup centers on the team.

As Scotto pointed out in his post on X reporting the signing at the beginning of this month, Wagner will be getting a significant pay raise from Brooklyn as he will be making an average of $9.5 million per season after earning just $5 million this past campaign. It became apparent as the offseason went on that the Nets were trying to maximize as much of their cap space as possible and now that the Wagner signing is official, it seems that Brooklyn is done for now.
