SEC program working to flip blue-chip FSU commit

The Florida State Seminoles landed four 2027 commitments in July, and the second-highest-rated of the bunch is four-star athlete Za'Kari Johnson, who will play defensive back for FSU.

Johnson is from Opa Locka, Florida, and was originally a member of the 2028 recruiting cycle before reclassifying and pledging to Mike Norvell's program, picking them over the Miami Hurricanes and Syracuse Orange. The battle for him is not over, though, and an SEC program is reportedly making a run to flip him.
According to Zach Blostein of 247Sports, the Texas A&M Aggies are "in play and is actively working to flip" Johnson from the Seminoles.
It would be a massive blow for FSU to lose Johnson, who is their fifth-highest-ranked commit overall and one of three defensive backs committed. He is ranked as the No. 344 overall player and No. 21 athlete in the 247Sports composite. He is also the No. 30 player from Florida.
While the Seminoles have proximity on their side, the Aggies have recruited Florida better than anyone in 2027. Five of the state's top eight recruits are currently committed to Texas A&M, including five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews and five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson.
