The Chicago White Sox looked to be out on landing pitcher Tarik Skubal via trade. But Luis Castillo now heads to the Windy City. All thanks to the White Sox pulling off a massive four-player deal with the Seattle Mariners Saturday.
ESPN baseball insider Jeff Passan revealed the complete details of this MLB Trade Deadline move.
“BREAKING: The Chicago White Sox are acquiring right-hander Luis Castillo in a trade with the Seattle Mariners for reliever Seranthony Dominguez, outfielder Nolan Jones and catching prospect Boston Smith, sources tell ESPN,” Passan posted on the social media website X, formerly known as Twitter.

Castillo rose as a rumored Mariner heading for the trade market. So now he officially ends a five-season run in the Pacific Northwest. He’s currently 3-9 as a starter with 86 strikeouts and 16 home runs allowed. But will hand White Sox manager Will Venable an extra veteran presence.
Castillo last saw action versus the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. He threw in five innings, allowing 11 hits with five runs plus surrendered two home runs. But his now former team the Mariners pulled out the 7-6 win on July 28. The right-hander has thrown 86 strikeouts with 107 hits allowed this season along with 65 runs.
But he earned his last MLB All-Star appearance as a Mariner in 2023. He tossed 219 strikeouts that season while surrendering 28 home runs. Castillo also played in two other all-star games in 2022 and 2019 with the Cincinnati Reds.
Chicago pulls off this move following its 1-0 loss to the American East leading Tampa Bay Rays. Yet the White Sox remain as the leader of the AL Central at 58-52 overall.
