Lions GM Brad Holmes speaks on Jahmyr Gibbs’ contract hold-in

We’re now a full week into Jahmyr Gibbs’ hold-in, as he continues to await a new contract from the Detroit Lions. there is optimism a deal could get done soon for Gibbs. However, there haven’t been any concrete updates on any progress made from the two sides.

On Wednesday, Lions general manager Brad Holmes offered some brief thoughts on the situation while doing a radio show on SiriusXM with Pat Kirwan and Jacob Hester.
“Look, obviously we love Jahmry,” Holmes said. “Me and Dan (Campbell) have always been believers in that one-two punch. I just think that’s how this league is going now. But, you know, we’re having dialogue. We’ll see where it goes.“
Kirwan then offers a reassuring, “It’ll get there.” To which Holmes replies, “That’s the hope.”

If we’re being completely honest, this isn’t the most reassuring clip in regards to progress between the Lions and Gibbs. But it’s also in Holmes’ best interest to not say anything that could impact negotiations. So I wouldn’t read too much into this.
Still, combine this short clip with Campbell’s earlier comments that he was surprised a deal hadn’t been done by now, and this saga is certainly drawing out longer than most anticipated. Hopefully this entire situation will be in the rear-view mirror soon.
