Floyd Shivambu robbed in brazen V&A Waterfront vehicle break-in

Afrika Mayibuye Movement leader Floyd Shivambu was the victim of a brazen vehicle break-in at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront on Wednesday, with thieves stealing electronic devices, personal documents and other valuables from his hired vehicle.

The incident occurred while Shivambu and members of the party were attending a ward candidate verification meeting as part of the Afrika Mayibuye Movement’s preparations for the 2026 local government elections.
Stole various items
According to a statement issued by the party, the suspects allegedly broke into the hired vehicle and stole a travel bag, a handbag and a backpack containing a MacBook Pro laptop, two iPads, watches, bank cards, personal identity documents and other valuables.
The party said the meeting formed part of its nationwide campaign to physically verify ward councillor nominees before finalising its candidate list for the upcoming municipal elections.
According to the CGN Crime Facebook page, images of the alleged suspect were obtained from the V&A Waterfront’s security and control room and handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) to assist with the investigation.
Broader pattern of thefts
SAPS confirmed that a criminal case has been opened at Table Bay Harbour Police Station.
“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. Investigations continue, no arrest,” police said.
Floyd Shivambu added that several other complainants were also at the police station reporting similar vehicle break-ins, suggesting the incident may form part of a broader pattern of thefts targeting vehicles in the area.
Despite the setback, the Afrika Mayibuye Movement said the incident would not disrupt its election campaign.
“No amount of distraction will stop our march towards victory,” Shivambu said.
Police investigations into the theft are continuing, with no arrests having been made at this stage.
