‘A little sad’: Layla Kolbe questions SA All Blacks supporters

Layla Kolbe, the wife of Springbok and Stormers player Cheslin Kolbe, has posted a cryptic message criticising South Africans who continue to support the All Blacks.

This comes as the New Zealand rugby team have kicked off their Greatest Rivalry series in South Africa this weekend.
On Friday, the ABs beat the Stormers 38-21 at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town.
LAYLA KOLBE CRITICISES SOUTH AFRICAN ALL BLACKS SUPPORTERS
On her Instagram Stories, Layla Kolbe reposted a post from someone who called out South Africans who chose to support the All Blacks over the Springboks or any South African club.
The post read: “Something is bothering me massively is the amount of All Black supporters that still walk among us after so many years of work being done by SA rugby to make the sport in this country so representative of how diverse we all are.
“I just am a little sad at how many people can’t seem to [support] teams that actually represent them properly for the first time in more than 30 years. The sport code doing the most to get this right in OUR country”.
Like Layla, Cheslin has also referred to the All Blacks’ Western Cape supporters.
A year after winning the 2023 Rugby World Cup trophy, the winger stated that he had hoped the Springboks would “win over more support”.
He said: “The only thing we can do more is to win, and hopefully earn a bit more respect here. Yes, the All Blacks do have a good support base in Cape Town, but I’m sure the majority of supporters will be cheering on the Springboks.”
Outside New Zealand, the All Blacks have the strongest support in South Africa, particularly among the coloured community in the Western Cape. For many, the support is deep-rooted in Apartheid, when New Zealand stood with non-white players who were sidelined from joining the Springboks.
