Giants give Mike Krukow special Oracle Park tribute following retirement announcement

Longtime San Francisco Giants color commentator Mike Krukow announced this week that he will retire following the 2026 season, ending a legendary era for the Giants’ TV booth.

Krukow has been part of the Giants’ booth since 1990 and has served as a full-time broadcaster since 1994. A seven-time Emmy Award winner, he is best known for his partnership with Duane Kuiper, whom he first met as a teammate on the 1983 Giants. The duo ranked third in Awful Announcing’s 2025 MLB local broadcast rankings.

While Kuiper has said he still plans to call games in 2027, he admitted that it will be different without his longtime broadcasting partner and friend. Krukow revealed his diagnosis with inclusion body myositis, a degenerative muscle disease, back in 2014, and has spent the seasons since steadily scaling back his workload as the condition progressed.

The two were back in the booth Friday night for a Giants game against the Detroit Tigers at Oracle Park, and the franchise made sure to pay tribute to Krukow now that it’s known he’ll be hanging up the headset in a few months.

Krukow was honored during a break in the game with a speech by PA announcer Carolyn McArdle. San Francisco fans and players applauded the longtime analyst as he was shown on the big screen in centerfield. Some also referenced “Grab some pine, Meat,” which the analyst uses when an opposing player strikes out.

Krukow will also be honored with a special ceremony celebrating his career on Sept. 27 at Oracle Park.
