  • Successful dress rehearsal
  • Harder and Alara on target
  • 6,000 crowd at Sportpark

FC Bayern Women celebrate a win in their future home! Coach José Barcala’s side beat Paris FC 2-0 in their showpiece friendly on Sunday afternoon in front of 6,000 spectators at Sportpark Unterhaching. In their final warm-up match before the Supercup, Pernille Harder (13’) and Alara (35’) scored the goals for the Munich girls in the first half, watched by president Herbert Hainer, who was still in Hong Kong yesterday.

Bühl: ‘Gained more confidence’

“We’re very pleased,” said Klara Bühl after the game. “It was a very positive performance and we’ve gained even more confidence with the win. Paris gave us a good game. It was very tiring with the heat. Now we go into the Supercup with a good feeling and we want to win that too, so that we start the league with a positive feeling. I’m really positively surprised at how many fans came and how good the atmosphere was from the start. That makes us extremely excited for the matches here.”

Both goals in first half

The home side made the better start and took the lead with the first dangerous move after 13 minutes, when Harder turned in Stine Ballisager’s cross from the right. After that it was largely an even contest, with clear openings in front of goal at a premium. With 35 minutes gone, Alara was in the right place to bundle the ball in from close range from Bühl’s free kick, making it 2-0 at the break.

Comfortable second half

Soon after the restart, Jovana Damnjanović had a big chance net the third goal of the afternoon but hit the bar. Shortly after that, Harder missed the target from a promising position. Both teams then made numerous substitutions, which saw the game lose some of its rhythm. In the 74th minute, Damnjanović was played through on goal by Alara, but her attempt landed the wrong side of the goal. A few minutes later, Clara Choisy came on for her first-team debut for Bayern Women, who took their foot off the pedal a little in the closing stages and comfortably saw out the 2-0 lead.

Supercup followed by league opener

Attention now turns towards the Google Pixel Supercup next Saturday, 15 August, when the double winners meet VfL Wolfsburg for the first trophy of the new season. The match begins at 19:30 CEST at the Audi Sportpark in Ingolstadt. A week later, on Friday 21 August, FCB kick off the new Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga campaign away to 1. FC Union Berlin at the Stadion an der Alten Försterei (18:20 CEST).
