Spartan game admission now free for all students

Aug. 9—SUPERIOR — Families attending Superior High School athletic events will no longer be charged for their K-8 students.
Previously entry to games at was $5 for younger students. Now, as long as they're accompanied by a parent or guardian, they will get into games for free.

"Attending school athletic events should be a family experience. When parents raised concerns about the cumulative cost of paying admission for their younger K — 8 children all year, we listened," said Superior High School Principal Ryan Haroldson. "This change is all about making games more accessible and affordable for our active families."
The goal, according to Haroldson, is to see more K-8 students at games to "experience the energy firsthand and get excited about their own futures as Spartans."
Admission for high school students has already been free.
The district didn't have numbers ready about how many K-8 students attended games in the past or how much revenue they generated for the district. But according to Haroldson, the business office has confirmed the change "will have zero negative impact on our athletic programs."
"The value of filling our stands and bringing the community together far outweighs the nominal revenue loss," Haroldson said.
