St Stithians murder: Brother makes explosive allegation

New claims have emerged following the murder of St Stithians learner Cameron Waldeck-Cooks.
A social media post attributed to Cameron’s brother, Ethan Waldeck-Cooks, has accused Ethan Coetzee of killing the 17-year-old.

The serious allegation comes as police continue their murder investigation.
Police have not publicly identified Coetzee as Cameron’s killer.
Brother speaks out
According to a report, posts bearing the name of Cameron’s brother appeared on Instagram and X.
The posts accused Coetzee of killing Cameron.
They also criticised the way Cameron and Coetzee have been portrayed together following their deaths.
However, the report said it could not independently confirm that Cameron’s brother authored the posts.
The allegations have also not been confirmed by police.
What happened at the Sabie lodge?
Cameron and Coetzee, 19, were found dead at a lodge in Sabie, Mpumalanga, on 3 August.
Cameron was a Grade 11 learner at St Stithians Girls’ College.
Coetzee matriculated from St Stithians Boys’ College in 2025.
Cameron’s parents previously said they were informed that morning that Graham Coetzee had discovered Cameron’s body.
Other reports said Graham Coetzee discovered both teenagers at the lodge.
SAPS said officers responded to a complaint at about 07:50.
Police found the two teenagers at the property. Both were declared dead at the scene.
Murder investigation opened
Police initially opened an inquest into the deaths.
However, the case took a major turn following post-mortem examinations.
Preliminary findings suggested Cameron had been strangled.
Police subsequently opened a murder case.
Cameron’s family also appointed an independent forensic pathologist.
Her parents, Derrick Cooks and Claire Waldeck-Cooks, said preliminary findings supported the conclusion that their daughter died as a result of strangulation and suffocation.
Police have not named a suspect
The investigation into Cameron’s murder continues.
Police have not announced an arrest.
They have also not publicly identified a suspect or confirmed the allegations made in the social media posts.
Cameron had travelled to Mpumalanga as part of a hiking trip.
Her family said she was working towards the Gold Level of The President’s Award for Youth Empowerment.
Her parents have previously appealed for privacy and cautioned against presenting speculation as fact while the investigation continues.
