“Broke their promise.” Cuadrado insists he did not betray Juventus
· Yahoo Sports
Juan Cuadrado became one of the few players in recent times to move to Inter Milan after spending a long period at Juventus, where he also served as captain in several matches.
The Colombian spent almost a decade at Juventus and made more than 200 league appearances for the club. However, he was not prepared to leave in the summer of 2023 because the Bianconeri had promised to offer him a new contract.

The club soon changed its position, leaving Cuadrado without a club when he had expected to extend his stay in Turin. Inter Milan then approached him, presenting the winger with an opportunity to continue his career at one of Juventus’ biggest rivals.
Cuadrado explains Inter move
Most former Juventus stars would likely reject an approach from Inter because they understand how supporters could react to seeing them wearing the Nerazzurri colours. Cuadrado, however, accepted the move and has now explained why he felt he had little choice after Juventus changed their plans.
The Colombian says Juventus had promised him a new contract and that he was expecting to receive the deal. Instead, the club released him, leaving him to consider other options as a free agent.
Cuadrado insists that he did not want to leave Juventus, but circumstances forced him to look elsewhere. His decision to join Inter was therefore not motivated by a desire to turn his back on the Bianconeri.
Juventus broke their promise
As quoted by Football Italia, Cuadrado said: “I was a free agent after eight years, and many people considered it a betrayal when I moved to Inter.
“However, when you are out of work, you need to seek other options. Besides, I didn’t want to leave Juventus, they had offered me a new contract, and then broke their promise.”
Cuadrado’s comments provide his explanation for one of the more controversial transfers involving a former Juventus player. Having spent almost a decade with the club, he understood the significance of joining Inter, but he maintains that Juventus’ decision left him needing to find another opportunity.
The winger therefore believes his move should not be viewed simply as a betrayal of Juventus. In his account, he had wanted to remain with the club, but its decision to withdraw the promised contract ultimately led him to accept Inter’s offer.
