The eight teams in the AFC South and NFC North will each receive Nike Rivalries uniforms this season. Teams may only wear the Nike Rivalries uniforms once per season and it must be at home against a division opponent.
The other options for the Lions to don the Nike Rivalries uniforms would have been when Detroit hosts the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Oct. 25 in Week 7 or when it hosts the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving in Week 12.

"I'm pretty excited about them. They're kind of consistent with our colors and our look, but I think with a little modern twist that the fans are going to like. That was a process that we went through over several years with Nike and telling them what we would be interested in. They'd come back with a version, we'd push back and it goes back and forth. We finally settled on one that I think everyone's going to like," retiring Lions president and CEO Rod Wood said of the uniforms during a May 12 interview with Brad Galli.
The Vikings have already announced that they will wear their Nike Rivalries alternate uniforms when the Lions visit U.S. Bank Stadium on Dec. 20 in Week 15 for “Sunday Night Football.”
The NFL unveiled Rivalries uniforms last year with teams from the AFC East and NFC West wearing the jerseys.
