Tigers announce Riley Greene injury update, make roster moves

The Detroit Tigers have suffered a potentially significant setback at a crucial point in the 2026 MLB season.

Detroit announced Wednesday that outfielder Riley Greene has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain. Greene left Tuesday’s game after experiencing tightness in the hamstring, and the Tigers have now decided to give him time to recover.

The team also made a pair of corresponding roster moves.

Greene heads to the injured list

There is currently no indication of exactly how long Greene will be unavailable beyond the minimum 10-day IL stint, but the Tigers clearly believe he needs some time away from the field.

That’s particularly concerning given where Detroit sits in the standings.

The Tigers have fought their way back into the postseason picture and are now just half a game out of a Wild Card spot. They’re also only 2.5 games behind the White Sox in the Central Division.

Losing one of their better players while the playoff race is this tight is far from ideal.

Tigers bring up Corey Julks

To fill Greene’s spot on the active roster, Detroit selected the contract of fellow outfielder Corey Julks.

The move required another change to the organization’s 40-man roster. The Tigers designated right-hander Troy Watson for assignment to create the necessary room for Julks.

For now, the Tigers will have to navigate the playoff race without Greene and hope his hamstring responds quickly to treatment.

Detroit has done an impressive job climbing back into contention, but the margin for error is extremely small. Every game carries added importance at this point of the season, and Greene’s absence could make that challenge considerably more difficult.

The Tigers will hope their star outfielder can return as soon as he’s healthy enough to do so.
