Bafana Bafana starlet swaps English football for MLS

Bafana Bafana and Queens Park Rangers (QPR) starlet Tylon Smith has officially signed a season-long loan deal with Major League Soccer side New England Revolution.
Smith, who was touted as South Africa’s next biggest superstar in England, is joining New England Revolution through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season.

New England Revolution said in a statement that they have an option to make Smith‘s stay permanent at the end of his loan deal.

“The New England Revolution have acquired central defender Tylon Smith on loan from Queens Park Rangers F.C. through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, with an option to purchase,” reads part of the statement.
“Smith, 21, arrives in New England following a brief spell with Queens Park Rangers F.C. of the English Football League (EFL) Championship, where he suited up for 10 appearances across the senior and U-21 levels from 2025-26. Prior to QPR, Smith began his professional career with his hometown club, Stellenbosch FC of the South African Premiership, after developing through the club’s academy.”

“Tylon Smith is a promising player who will help strengthen our defense,” Revolution General Manager and Chief Soccer Officer Chris Tierney said.
“At just 21 years old, Tylon has built a strong foundation through both his club and youth national team experience. We’re confident that this is the ideal environment for Tylon to continue his development and we look forward to welcoming him to New England.”
