The injury comes at an unfortunate time for Frosler, who had started the campaign strongly and played an important role for Amakhosi.

The exact recovery period will depend on the severity and location of Frosler’s hamstring tear. Hamstring injuries can range from minor muscle strains to serious tears that require several months of rehabilitation.

According to the Claveland Clinic, a Grade 1 injury, involving small tears in the muscle fibres, can take the Kaizer Chiefs defender anything from a few days to around three weeks to recover from.

A Grade 2 partial tear is more serious and can require approximately three to eight weeks of rehabilitation.

The most serious injuries are Grade 3 tears, which involve a complete rupture and can sometimes require surgery. Those injuries can keep the Kaizer Chiefs star from Gqeberha out for three to six months or even longer.

That means Amakhosi will have to wait for further medical assessments before knowing exactly how long they will be without Frosler.

The location of the injury can also influence the recovery period. Tears closer to the upper hamstring and tendon can take longer to heal because tendon tissue generally receives less blood supply than muscle tissue.

KAIZER CHIEFS MUST AVOID RUSHING FROSLER

For the club, the priority will be ensuring that Frosler makes a complete recovery rather than rushing him back onto the pitch.

Hamstring injuries carry a significant risk of recurrence when players return before they have fully recovered. Frosler will therefore need to regain his strength, flexibility and full range of movement before returning to competitive football.

A player should ideally be able to walk and jog normally without pain or a limp before progressing to more explosive movements. The injured leg should also regain strength comparable to the uninjured side.

With Kaizer Chiefs facing a demanding season, losing Frosler is a major blow. However, Amakhosi will hope the defender can complete his rehabilitation properly and return to action at full strength.
