Liverpool Consider Elliott Departure During Pre‑Season Planning

This Is Anfield reports thatLiverpoolhad undertaken early pre‑season planning around their midfield options and had looked into the potential of Elliott moving to Crystal Palace.

During that time, Elliott had been working under Andoni Iraola, but was unable to make a significant impression in pre‑season or show he was ready to reclaim a place in the Liverpool starting team, following a difficult loan spell at Aston Villa.

However, momentum soon faded, with no clear signs from Palace of meaningful interest in the 23‑year‑old. The London side did not follow up on the early discussions, leaving Elliott’s situation unchanged.

Liverpool’s Stance Now And What Comes Next

With one year remaining on his current deal, Liverpool’s position is understood to be firm, Elliott can depart permanently if a suitable offer arrives.

The Reds are prepared to sanction an exit, but only if a proposal aligns with their valuation.

Elliott’s future has been one of the quieter transfer sagas of the window for Liverpool, but his limited minutes in pre‑season have reinforced the sense that there is little to suggest a late surge in form or interest that might alter the trajectory of his situation.

Authors verdict

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, I would keep Harvey Elliott. For me, he remains a valuable squad option, someone who can deputise for Florian Wirtz in the No.10 role and offer a different creative profile when Liverpool need it.

It is fair to acknowledge the concerns. Jurgen Klopp didn’t pick Elliott towards the end of his time at liverpool, Arne Slot didn’t play him at all and Unai Emery didn’t find a place for him during his loan at Aston Villa. Those decisions naturally raise questions about how managers view his ceiling and where he fits tactically. But Andoni Iraola is a coach with a track record of elevating players.

It was always likely to be a slow start for him in pre‑season, especially after a difficult year at Villa of hardly playing, but that shouldn’t overshadow what he can still become.

If Liverpool stick with him, there is still a player to unlock.
