All Blacks hand Springboks a lesson at Ellis Park

The All Blacks took the lead in Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry’s four-Test series with a comprehensive win over the Springboks at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on Saturday.

New Zealand won 33-16 after South Africa led 13-12 at half-time.

The 17-point win was the All Blacks’ biggest ever over the Springboks at Ellis Park and their seventh win out of 16 matches the two nations have contested at the venue.

Forgettable night

The All Blacks scored five tries to the Springboks’ lone five-pointer on a forgettable night for Rassie Erasmus’ men.

New Zealand scored tries through Will Jordan (2), Josh Moorby, Fabian Holland and Luke Jacobson. Ruben Love added four conversions.

The Springboks replied with a try by Andre Esterhuizen and a conversion and two penalties by Cheslin Kolbe.

The Springboks also lost their No 1 world ranking, slipping to second place behind the All Blacks.

The second Test will take place at the Cape Town Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday, 29 August.

Kick-off is at 17:10.
