Packers fans getting a kick out of rookie Trey Smack's hot start

The Green Bay Packers drafted Trey Smack in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

After two August games it appears any team that was looking for a kicker should have selected the rookie out of the University of Florida much higher as Smack appears to be a bargain.

After making four field goals in the Packers' 33-13 preseason victory over the Broncos, Smack is 7-for-7 on field goal tries. Three of those have been boots of more than 50 yards and they've all been good by plenty.

Smack actually has kicked eight through the uprights, but one was taken off the scoreboard last week in a 28-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a defensive penalty.

While there will be plenty of questions as to who wins the last handful of roster spots in next week's third preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, nobody will be wondering who the Packers' starting kicker is. Smack has left no doubt that he is the guy.

With field goals of 51, 59, 43 and 38 yards against the Broncos, Smack continued to show that he could become a true offensive weapon for the Packers. He also kicked a 58-yarder last week in Pittsburgh.

The franchise has been searching for consistency at the position since it decided not to re-sign Mason Crosby in 2023 and Smack's been nothing short of perfect.

Here's a bit of reaction after Smack's early kicking display:
