Viola Davis to join One Young World Summit 2026 in Cape Town

Award-winning American actress, producer and author Viola Davis will join the One Young World Summit 2026 in Cape Town as a Counsellor.

The summit will take place from 3 to 6 November.

One Young World brings together young leaders from around the world to discuss issues including human rights, climate action, health, education, peace and economic empowerment.

More than 2,000 delegates aged between 18 and 30 from more than 190 countries are expected to attend the four-day summit.

Counsellors include senior figures from politics, business, humanitarian work, sport and culture.

Viola Davis joins summit as Counsellor

Ella Robertson McKay, managing director of One Young World, said Davis was a strong fit for the role of Counsellor.

“Viola Davis embodies exactly what a One Young World Counsellor should be, someone who has reached the very top of her field and used that platform to open doors for others,” she said.

Davis is one of 22 people to have achieved EGOT status. She has won an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award.

Her career includes film and television roles, production work through JuVee Productions and her bestselling memoir.

She has also been named to the Time 100 list of the world’s most influential people.

Beyond entertainment, Davis advocates for underrepresented communities through the Davis-Tennon Foundation. She has also campaigned against childhood hunger in the United States.

16th edition of One Young World

The 2026 summit will be the 16th edition of One Young World and the second to take place in South Africa.

The first South African summit was held in Johannesburg in 2013. It was also the organisation’s first summit on the African continent.

The Cape Town summit will focus on youth leadership and issues affecting communities around the world..

Previous summits have been held in cities including London, Zurich, Pittsburgh, Johannesburg, Dublin, Bangkok, Ottawa, Bogotá, The Hague, Munich, Manchester, Belfast and Montréal.
