Mystery Soweto player wins R93.5 million PowerBall jackpot

A lucky PowerBall player from Soweto has landed a massive R93 523 480 million jackpot after purchasing the winning ticket at a local retailer.
The winning ticket for PowerBall draw number 1748, held on Friday, 21 August 2026, was purchased at Pronto Fruit and Vegetables in Molapo, Soweto.

The winning numbers were 2, 4, 5, 24, 49 and the PowerBall bonus number was 4.
The winner has not yet come forward to claim the life-changing prize as at the time of publishing.
Sizekhaya Holdings, the operator of South Africa’s National Lottery, has congratulated the mystery winner and urged them to claim their winnings.
“This is a truly extraordinary win,” Sizekhaya Chief Operating Officer Fundi Sithebe said.
“Somebody’s life changed completely on Friday night. We cannot wait to meet the winner, hear their story and celebrate this remarkable moment with them.”
One of the biggest jackpots
The R93.5 million prize is one of the biggest National Lottery jackpots recorded since Sizekhaya became the operator on 1 June 2026.
The company said the win demonstrates its ambition to create more winners across South Africa.

“Every jackpot won represents a real person whose possibilities have changed overnight. This is what makes these moments so special.”
Winner yet to come forward
The identity of the Soweto winner remains unknown, with Sizekhaya encouraging the ticket holder to come forward and begin the process of claiming the prize.
The winner should keep their ticket safe and follow the official National Lottery procedures when claiming the jackpot.
For residents of Molapo and the wider Soweto area, the news means one local lottery player could soon have their life transformed by a R93.5 million windfall.
“Somebody has to win,” Sithebe said.
“This time, it was a player in Soweto. Next time, it could be you.”
The jackpot winner now has the task of coming forward to claim one of the biggest lottery prizes handed out since the new National Lottery operator took over.
