The Indianapolis Colts re-signed Alec Pierce this offseason to a four-year, $114 million contract. It's a huge deal for the deep-threat WR, but shortly after the deal was announced, he underwent a procedure on his ankle.
He's been on the Physically Unable to Perform list all summer, and there has been, at times, some concern about his potential return. Fortunately, some good news came in before their third and final preseason game.
According to Mike Chappell of FOX 59/CBS4 Sports, the Colts are activating Pierce off the PUP, a great sign that he could be ready for the start of the regular season.

"Colts taking WR Alec Pierce off PUP today, per source," Chappell reports. "Been rehabbing after surgery on left ankle/heel in March."
Pierce's long road to recovery might finally be reaching its end. This is some great news for the Colts and Pierce, as he's now active on the roster with a real chance to play in Week 1.
After hauling in 47 receptions for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns last season in a breakout season for the Colts offense with Daniel Jones, Pierce earned a massive $114 million payday before hitting free agency.

The 26-year-old receiver is the No. 1 option in this passing offense, with Josh Downs, Tyler Warren, and recent free agent signing Keenan Allen rounding out the team's pass catchers.
Michael Pittman is gone, so if Pierce is healthy, which this roster move from the Colts would seem to indicate, another massive season could be in store for Pierce.
For the second straight year, he led the league in yards-per-reception, reaching 21.3 this season after posting a ridiculous 22.3 in 2024.
His ankle injury has been a cause for concern, but this news from Chappell is a sigh of relief and a great report that finally squashes one of the biggest concerns about this Colts team heading into the 2026 season. Pierce is back and has a chance to suit up in Week 1.
