PLAYER RATINGS: Springboks shine in crucial win over All Blacks

The Springboks beat New Zealand 33-26 (half-time 24-14) in Cape Town to win the second Test of Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry, and pull level in the series.
South Africa scored three tries in the opening 40 minutes, with the All Blacks responding with two of their own, both scored from inside their own half.

The visitors added two more in the second half, but Cheslin Kolbe’s perfect kicking record of seven from seven, which included three second half penalty goals, ensured the Springboks came away with victory.

Cheslin Kolbe 9/10
The veteran wing initially wasn’t named in the Springbok team, but what an impact he made after coming in for Kurt-Lee Arendse. Kolbe was faultless from the kicking tee, once again proving his value in this key facet of play, while he also enjoyed some typical magic moments on attack
Malcolm Marx 9/10
Marx came off the bench just before half-time, and the multi-talented hooker made an immediate impact. The 32-year-old’s presence was clear to see all over the field as he won a host of crucial turnovers at the breakdown, and also completed ever-impressive defensive work.
Damian de Allende 8/10
The powerful centre was far more involved in action during this Test, particularly in the first half. De Allende scored a sensational try, and often popped up at first receiver to make his impact felt as a ball carrier. On defence, he was solid as ever.
Siya Kolisi 7/10
An incredible comeback for the captain, who showed what the Springboks have been missing for large parts of this season. Kolisi scored an important try with a well-timed run, and he was solid in almost every other facet of play.
Jesse Kriel 7/10
The muscular centre won’t steal many headlines, but his work rate was off the charts. Besides finishing off the first try in emphatic fashion, he constantly cut off the All Blacks’ passing lane at different times as he again proved why his defensive reads set him apart at outside centre.
