‘It can’t be good’ – NBA veteran sends warning to Lakers over LeBron James

Los Angeles Lakers are entering a new chapter after choosing to move forward without LeBron James, but former Lakers champion Horace Grant believes his departure will still leave a major void.
Grant, who won the NBA championship with Los Angeles in 2001, acknowledged the Lakers’ transition while stressing the significance of losing a player of James’ calibre.

Grant made his feelings clear while discussing James‘ departure, insisting that the Lakers cannot simply overlook what his absence means for the team.
“With a guy like LeBron, I don’t care if he’s 50 years old,” Grant told Action Network. “When he leaves a team, it can’t be good.”
The former NBA veteran also praised James for maintaining a high level of play deep into his career, making it clear that his respect for the four-time NBA champion remains strong.
“I have the highest praise for LeBron being 42 and still playing at a high level,” Grant said. “I’m a big fan of the young man.”
Grant’s comments come as the Lakers prepare to build around Luka Doncic following James’ exit.
Los Angeles has already embraced the next phase of the franchise with Doncic at the centre of their plans, but Grant believes that does not make losing James any less significant.
James’ departure leaves the Lakers without one of the most accomplished players in NBA history, while the franchise now turns their attention towards their future with Doncic.
Grant’s warning is rooted in the impact James has continued to have despite being well into the latter stages of his career.
The Lakers therefore face the challenge of moving forward with their new cornerstone while dealing with everything that comes with losing James.
For Los Angeles, the focus is now on the Doncic era. But as Grant pointed out, beginning that new chapter does not erase the significance of what the Lakers have lost.
