Alex Golesh gives Dublin Scioto shoutout during memorable Auburn interview

A participant in Auburn's inaugural Victory Day got a memorable interview with football coach Alex Golesh, who gave a shoutout to his alma mater, Dublin Scioto High School, at the event involving members of Auburn's EAGLES special education program and Lee County Special Olympians.

While Golesh was speaking to the media after the event Aug. 30, EAGLES student Kaili Blauwkamp asked to interview him. Golesh obliged and then answered a short series of questions. The last question brought back some older memories for Golesh: "What high school did you go to?"

"I went to Dublin Scioto High School, in Dublin, Ohio," Golesh said.

"Oh wow, that's far!" Blauwkamp replied.

"Yeah. Home of the Irish. Big win last Friday night," Golesh said. "...It's been a long time since I was there, but yeah, congrats to them."

Golesh was referencing Dublin Scioto's 42-36 win over Briggs on Aug. 28. Golesh played linebacker at Dublin Scioto and was a three-year letter winner.

Golesh gave Blauwkamp uninterrupted time to ask questions, such as why he picked Auburn.

"Well, I chose Auburn because it's the best place in the entire country and we're going to win national championships," Golesh said with a smile. The athlete cheered in response.

He also revealed his "top-secret" pregame meal to the athlete: Spaghetti with butter and "loaded" with parmesan cheese, and with two pieces of steak.

Golesh graduated from Ohio State, earning a bachelor's degree in education. His focus in his degree was special education, according to 247Sports.

Golesh brought the Victory Day event concept to Auburn from his prior job at South Florida. The event also featured Auburn cheerleaders and pep band members supporting the athlete participants, who worked with the Auburn offense and scored touchdowns throughout the evening.

"It gives us a chance to give back to some really cool fans. It gives our players a unique perspective of how fortunate they are. We get to share this stadium tonight with a bunch of really special athletes and we get to go play football on Saturday," Golesh said via AuburnTigers.com.
