DStv’s new ‘affordable’ sports packages revealed – is it worth it?

But not everyone is convinced that their latest tactic is a good deal.

The pay-per-view company was recently acquired by French media company Canal+, which took control of MultiChoice, the South African group behind DStv, SuperSport and M-Net. 

DSTV TO INTRODUCE NEW SYSTEM, INCLUDING SPORTS PACKAGE

According to leaked information published this week, DStv is preparing a major overhaul of its packages, with the new lineup expected to launch as soon as 17 September 2026. 

Packages will now be grouped into more “affordable” categories based on interest, with the introduction of a sports package being the biggest drawcard.

This comes amid ongoing reports of DStv and Multichoice’s substantial subscriber loss over the years in favour of streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube.

The move is believed to be motivated by Canel+’s goal of making DStv more flexible and attractive to different types of customers.

IS IT WORTH IT?

While DStv’s model is likely geared at grouping channels together, they believe the public has requested – i.e., a dedicated sports package.

However, with the omission of SuperSport, only available on the Premium package, is it really worth the effort and price?
