Woods called Trump personally after the crash, before he was taken into custody.

Tiger’s a “great guy,” Trump told reporters, describing him as “unique in so many ways, especially as an athlete but also as a man.”

The president then repeated Tiger’s apparent defense of his would-be DUI: He wasn’t inebriated, he just happened to be taking a prescription painkiller at the time for his back.

“They didn’t find alcohol on him,” Trump said. “He had a back operation that did not work out well and he was under pain. Tough deal to be taking a painkiller and you have a problem and you test positive. I mean, it’s a prescription painkiller.”
