After his US Open R2 win, Carlos Alcaraz says we will see less of him in 2027
· Yahoo Sports
Carlos Alcaraz found his game before our eyes on Wednesday night in the US Open second round. Alcaraz dropped the first set, but he cruised through the next three sets.
Alcaraz is coming off a four month layoff for a wrist injury that caused the 2026 Australian Open champion to miss the French Open and Wimbledon.

Fans agree that tennis is better when Alcaraz is in it. However, we shouldn’t get too used to it. He said in his post match press conference that we will see less of him in 2027.

What Alcaraz said
Alcaraz admitted that he will be taking extended breaks from the ATP Tour in the future. While four months is not what he is suggesting, Alcaraz hinted it could be a month or more.
Though only 23, Alcaraz has been outspoken about the endlessly long 11-month ATP Tour calendar. With tournaments being added and injuries a constant, Alcaraz is taking a stand to preserve his personal health and well-being since the ATP Tour is not addressing this issue.
Alcaraz’s chief rival Jannik Sinner is dealing with a knee injury. He played a lot of tennis this spring including winning the Sunshine Double in March.
Rising superstars Arthur Fils and Joao Fonseca have been injured. ATP Tour veterans Casper Ruud and Taylor Fritz have also spent time away from the game this year because of injuries. The injury bug affects players, regardless of age, because of the travel, schedule, surface, ball, and climate changes players deal with.

Alcaraz is being applauded for his stand but not his Nike kit
Fans unanimously support the stand he is taking, but his “poop-colored” see through Nike kit is not as universally admired.

Nike collaborated with Travis Scott for the custom US Open kit which also includes a backward swoosh logo.
Alcaraz wore the same kit for his day and night matches so it appears he will be wearing it for the duration of the tournament.
Despite not liking his kit, fans want the defending champion Alcaraz to make a deep run in this year’s US Open which runs through September 13.
