Juventus resists the temptation to sign a free agent as midfield cover

Juventus should be considering cover for their midfield after losing Khephren Thuram for the rest of 2026 through injury, but at the moment, the Bianconeri are not considering signing a replacement.

The Bianconeri have been plagued by injuries during these first weeks of the season, which is something they probably never prepared for. They continue to work as hard as they can to ensure the team is in fine shape for the rest of the term, but Thuram will not contribute to their success during the remainder of 2026.

Kenan Yildiz is also injured, although he could return before the end of the year. Juve therefore have a unique opportunity to strengthen their squad, as there are several top free agents currently on the market.

Juve have free agent options

Some of those free agents would reportedly be willing to sign short-term deals to cover for Juve’s loss of personnel until the end of the season. Many clubs could take advantage of such opportunities to make additions to their squads when injuries leave them short of options.

For the Bianconeri, however, the situation appears to be different. Despite having access to players who could provide temporary cover, they have apparently decided against making use of the free agent market.

The decision means Juve will have to continue with the players currently available to them. With Thuram ruled out for the rest of 2026 and Yildiz also sidelined, their squad depth will be tested as they attempt to maintain their form.

Bianconeri will trust current squad

Tuttojuve reports that Juve will not sign free agents to cover for the players they have lost. Instead, they will make the most of the players already in their squad while waiting for the injured players to return.

That approach places greater responsibility on the available members of the team, particularly in midfield, where Thuram’s absence leaves Juve without one of their options.

The Bianconeri will therefore continue without adding a temporary replacement, trusting their existing squad to cope with the injuries. Their immediate focus will be on managing the situation until the sidelined players are able to return and contribute once again.
