Madden goes scorched earth on Steelers' T.J. Watt in Myles Garrett comparison

· Yahoo Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt isn't getting any slack from the ever-outspoken Mark Madden, who went scorched earth on the veteran while praising a former AFC North rival.

Madden has never shied away from sharing his fiery takes on Pittsburgh sports, which was especially the case when it came to comparing Watt's recent struggles to Myles Garrett's success as one of the best defensive players in all of football.

“Ever since Watt got the symbolic, ego-driven superiority of being paid $1 million more per year, Garrett has done nothing but prove his on-field supremacy," Madden wrote. "He won a second NFL Defensive Player of the Year. (Watt has one.) He broke Watt’s NFL single-season sack record last year, posting 23. He’s gone to Los Angeles to play alongside Aaron Donald and win a Super Bowl. He’s ranked 64 places ahead of Watt in ESPN’s rankings. Garrett’s career isn’t fading. Watt’s is.”

While Steelers fans may be hesitant to give Garrett his flowers like Madden has done, there's no debating that Watt showed major signs of regression in 2025. There's an argument to be made that Watt's struggles fall more on Mike Tomlin's and Teryl Austin's shoulders, but we won't know for sure until new Steelers DC Patrick Graham's defense takes center stage against the Atlanta Falcons in the 2026 season opener.
