Top area teams fall, but not Lake Travis or Westlake: Central Texas Week 2 football scores

Week 2 of the 2026 Central Texas high school football season saw the Lake Travis Cavaliers cruise past the Weiss Wolves in a matchup of two of the American-Statesman's top five preseason teams in the Austin area, but the Wolves were just one of several area ranked teams who fell on Friday.

Vandegrift and Bowie, two other area teams ranked in our Class 6A poll, also lost. As did Georgetown along with Weiss in our 5A poll. And LBJ, the No. 1 team in our Class 4A/others poll, was walloped 57-0 by visiting Waco La Vega. Liberty Hill, No. 3 in our Class 5A poll, saw its game at San Marcos postponed till Saturday morning because referees didn't make it to Rattler Stadium.
