Panthers owner David Tepper sets sights on making franchise history beginning in 2026

Over their 31-year history as an NFL franchise, the Carolina Panthers have never recorded back-to-back winning seasons. But the head honcho is hoping that'll no longer be the case by the end of 2027.

The Panthers took the practice field this afternoon, their second session of the week in the lead-up to Sunday's regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears. And before embarking on Wednesday's work and the new campaign, owner David Tepper showed up to chat with reporters.

With his team fresh off an encouraging 2025, where they captured the organization's first NFC South title since 2015 and its first playoff appearance since 2017, Tepper was asked what he defines as success moving forward. Here was his response . . .

One winning season would be a great start for Tepper, who has yet to see his Panthers finish above .500 in any of his eight years as owner. Since Tepper purchased the team in 2018, Carolina has gone a combined 44-89—good (or bad) enough for a .331 winning percentage.

However, things are looking up for. Tepper has installed a solid general manager in Dan Morgan, seems to have hit on a head coach, with Dave Canales entering his third season, and may have a franchise quarterback in Bryce Young.

And if you believe in their growth, last year's 8-9 mark—the best of Tepper's tenure—might signal that the Panthers are one step away from finally stopping their losing ways.
