The New England Patriots lost to the Seattle Seahawks by a 13-10 score in Wednesday night's season opener.

It was a game that was a defensive battle, and ultimately, the Seahawks earned the victory. Seattle’s starting quarterback, Sam Darnold, got injured in the first quarter, and backup quarterback Drew Lock had to step up for the Seahawks to win.

And he certainly did just that, going 16-of-22 passing on the night for 187 yards and a touchdown. However, he got a huge helping hand from the Seahawks' defense, which forced three turnovers for the second straight game against the Patriots.

As for New England, their offense looked lost. Quarterback Drake Maye went 23-of-33 on the evening, throwing for 178 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Rhamondre Stevenson had 16 carries for 51 yards. The Patriots failed to establish the run game consistently, and they couldn't get their passing game going downfield.

It didn't help matters that they lost A.J. Brown to an ankle injury.

It was a frustrating night for a Patriots team that won 14 games last season. Starting off the 2026 season by losing to a backup quarterback isn't what fans had in mind for the team in the second year under Mike Vrabel as head coach.
