Another week of college football means another week for a controversial call, and Week 2’s game-ending call in the Purdue and Wake Forest matchup has the college football world talking.
With the game in overtime, Purdue gave up a 4th-and-15 play that could have ended the game for Wake Forest, but a crucial call by the Big Ten referees instead resulted in a first down for the Demon Deacons, who then scored on the next play for the win.

Fans Outrage Following Controversial Call
“Big ten refs will rig it for Michigan but throw Purdue to the wolves,” wrote one X user.
“Refs literally decided the Purdue, Wake Forest game Don’t forget guys, it’s all rigged,” said a fan following the game’s result.
An Ohio State fan even came to the defense of Purdue after the loss, saying, “Purdue got cheated out of a win. We need referee jails.”
“Wait so you can now push people out of bounds when they catch a ball in CFB?” asked a Purdue fan while sharing a video of their view during the controversial call.
“Refs totally blew it. There was no obvious evidence to overturn the call on the field. The runner should have been ruled short, as called on the field and the game ended. Big Ten happy to throw Purdue under the bus,” exclaimed one user on X.
“Worse rig job than the Michigan game last week. Everyone knows Purdue won that game,” stated another user.
Ball Call or Blown Lead?
All Purdue had to do was buckle down, and they’d come out with their first win against a P4 opponent in 20 games.
Instead, they found themselves on the losing end, and some Boilermakers fans were not happy with the final drive’s result, regardless of the blown call.
“Purdue had 2 chances to go for the win but didn’t because the red zone offense is atrocious, but that then means relying on an atrocious defense,” stated one fan on X.
“Fire everyone on defense,” exclaimed another Purdue fan.
Whether the Big Ten will respond to this result promptly, as it did to last week’s Michigan incident, remains to be seen, but it unfortunately will not change the result for Purdue, which now falls to 21 straight games against a P4 opponent.
