The New York Giants are glad to have Malik Nabers back. The third-year receiver contributed six receptions for 69 yards in New York’s 28-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys. However, it was far from certain that the former rookie-record breaker was going to suit up for Week 1.

Nabers tore his ACL last season, and his recovery lined up with him being a true game-time decision for the Giants’ first game of the year. Ultimately, he decided he was good to play just two hours or so before kickoff.
“I decided really on warmups,” Nabers said in a video posted by SNY. “I was just out there. I felt really good. When I was running around, I felt like I was catching really well. I stretched and did my warmups pretty well. I just felt like it was time to go.”

Adam Schefter even reported that Nabers’ activity was so uncertain that the receiver had his family not come to the game at MetLife Stadium, as he didn’t want to disappoint them if he wasn’t able to go.
While Nabers didn’t have his most dominant performance ever, he proved that he seems destined to return to his superstar form. As a rookie, the LSU product broke the Giants’ record for single-season receptions (109). That mark was also briefly the NFL rookie record, although Brock Bowers bested it not long after.
The Giants’ offense appears to be high-octane, and Nabers is a big reason why. Jaxson Dart was electric in the first game of the season, and Isaiah Likely displayed he can be an excellent pass catching partner to pair with Nabers. Cam Skattebo is a violent runner, and Odell Beckham Jr. is even back in town.
