Good Morning, Illini Nation: About all that international recruiting ...

Sep. 15—The Protect College Sports Act still hasn't come up for vote on the U.S. Senate floor, and it faces as much bipartisan opposition as the bipartisan support that launched it. That hasn't stopped the Senate from pushing for a floor vote or Congress to find another avenue to try and flex their legislative muscle on the college athletics landscape.

Monday saw a new bill introduced from U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) and Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) that seeks to limit the number of international athletes on a college roster to 20 percent.

The bill's name? That would be the "Training and Education for American Members in University Sports and Athletics Act." Otherwise known as the "TEAM USA Act."

Where we should all pause is the fact a legislator from Ohio and one from Michigan are joining forces for anything sports related. Seems wrong.

But should this bill actually pass and those restrictions come to fruition, it would have a significant effect nationwide. While I struggled to envision Congress passing any legislation, especially legislation that would impact college athletics, it's worth a deep dive on Illinois' rosters to see which teams wouldn't be possible in this proposed future.

Several wouldn't pass muster with the current Congress. Like the roster Brad Underwood built.
